In my title I revive the word chrestomathy in its true sense of 'a collection of choice passages from an author or authors, ' chrestomathy mencken second and ignore the late edition of 'especially one complied to assist in the acquirement of a language.' In the latter significance the term is often used by linguists, chrestomathy mencken second and some of the chrestomathies issued by them in recent years.

August Mencken - August Mencken (February 18, 1889 - May 19, 1967) was an American civil engineer and author. He is the younger brother of Henry Louis Mencken.

Chrestomathy - Chrestomathy (Greek, from the words khrestos, useful, and mathein, to know) is a selection of linguistic writings which can be used in learning a language.
